8 meals from anarchy

role — Creative; concept; illustration; animation, UX/UI

With the constant inundation of food marketing, nutritional studies, and climate science reports, it’s hard to figure out what we to eat.

8 meals from anarchy is a show that invites young Millennial and Gen Z viewers to gather around the kitchen table to figure out just that by sharing food, stories, and culture.

For this project, my goal was to create a quirky digital brand that makes cooking seem fun and cool.

Branding

Logo explorations.

Exploring logos that represent Gen Z’s love of memes and vexation at the current state of the world.

Logos & type

“Vex” was created. Much like Gen Z, she is not afraid to express herself and frown on the poor choices of others.

YouTube title cards. Brand typefaces: Roboto Mono Medium + Monserrat Regular.

Illustrations

Hero illustration.

A cel-shaded line-art heavy art style – drawing inspiration from 2000s to early 2010s cartoons to evoke a sense of nostalgia and quirkiness.

Animations & GIFs

Newsletter page illustration. “A Newsletter for Fragrant Places” (Ie. the toilet).

Presenter’s profile picture (yes, that’s me).

Vex’s alternative profile picture.

Because we live in a rabidly visual, video (TikTok) obsessed world, I turned the illustrations into GIFs, and incorporated Vex them.

Web Design

To index the recipes, I chose tags that are a bit eccentric, but intuitive to readers that may not be familiar with the culinary canon. Yes, pasta requires its own section.
